How the Eath stays Warm

Coal mining affects the earth’s climate and is a major cause of global warming. To understand the impact coal has on the earths’ climate understanding how the earth stores heat is essential. Direct light from the sun is a powerful light wave. The earth reflects a less powerful light wave (infrared light) back into space. The infrared light tries to escape the atmosphere but greenhouse gases naturally occurring in the atmosphere delay the process. It takes a longer for the infrared light to escape meaning it is keeping the Earth warm.

What will happen?

To mine and use coal large emissions of CO2 are let into the atmosphere. This means it takes longer for the infrared light to escape therefore making the earth warmer. Although the earth’s climate has experienced much larger changes in climate over millions of years, scientists are worried about the coal being used as such an essential resource to power the world’s energy and how much air pollution is permanently impacting our environment.
